How long should I wear contacts for? Depends on your lens!

Contacts can be classified into two groups: daily wear and extended wear. Daily wear lenses must be removed nightly whereas extended wear lenses can be worn overnight.

Contact lens can be prescribed for several visual problems such as myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism or a combination of these problems. Bifocal and trifocal contact lenses can also be prescribed!

Duration of contact lenses wear completely depends on the disposal intervals. There are four (4) primary classifications:

  1. Daily disposable lens
  2. Biweekly disposable lens
  3. Monthly disposable lens
  4. Traditional/annual disposable lens

Daily Disposable Lens

  • Can be worn up to 14-18 hours without removal
  • Discarded after one use
  • Don’t need additional contact lenses care such as solutions, case etc.

Biweekly Disposable Lens

  • Discarded every two weeks
  • Care after wear is needed – proper storage, disinfection etc.

Monthly Disposable Lens

  • Discarded every month
  • Care after wear is needed – proper storage, disinfection etc.

Traditional Disposable Lens

  • Discarded every six (6) months or longer
  • Care after wear is needed – proper storage, disinfection etc.
  • Not a popular option any longer!
